You Can Too!

Hello!

It has been quite awhile since I have made an entry…we can all see how my new years resolution went!

I wanted to share some of my journey these past few months…last very happy months personally.  I have two small children, 4 & 2 years old, and since giving birth I have found myself out of MY shape, out of  (hours at) the gym, running around crazy taking care of the kids/husband/dog, managing a business, personal training clients, meal planning, making meals, cleaning, running the kids around, the list goes on and on and on-as we all know!!  Before this took control of me and I look back 10 years from now wondering where all the time went…how did I get here…I took control.

This past winter I was getting beyond myself with personal disgust as the way I looked and how “out of shape” I was.  (This is me Now vs Michele @20′s something–I cannot quit comparing myself to then!–but, that is when I was in the best shape of my life).  I had about 20 pounds to lose until I was personally happy.  I turned 32 in February and decided the time is now.  At the beginning of March, I started completing two sessions of 30 minutes low impact cardio a day, REALLY paying attention to my diet and started eating right.  I added body weight exercises to my routine and stuck to the program, every day, every week, every month.  I was ready to feel good again, to feel like me again.  Today, 3 months later, I have lost a total of 25lbs and have LOST 15% bodyfat (bye-bye!!).  I am officially pre-pregnancy weight, I have lower body fat % then I had 4 years ago and can honestly say I am in the best shape in 5 years I have been,  since competition days myself!!  I am happy with the new me.  I am not 100% satisfied, but who is!  To me, that means there is room for improvement.  I am not sure what I want to do and why I am doing this other than for the simple fact that I can and I did…and you can too.   How do I know…Because I have 10 clients who have come along and done the exact same program as me, same amount of time and have had the same positive results as I have!

Don’t ever think it’s too late….don’t ever think that you can never look the way you “used” too.  You can.  You can do anything you put your mind to.  Get out there and do it!!

Have a healthy, happy week!!

Michele

Welcome 2012!

Hello!

I’m back…well, I never REALLY started blogging! This is one of my goals for this year. It has taken me a while to really grab a hold of everything it takes in order to run a business (still a work in progress). We have very big goals this year and we really feel as if this is our year. :) I do want to jump right in with some thoughts.

Let’s talk about a topic that is easily confused but definetly something that needs to be addressed because of so many misconceptions: Results. What creates results? How do you get the results that you want? How many times a week do you have to work out to get results?  You have to eat what?!  Cabbage and chicken broth soup 5 x’s a week??!!  (KIDDING)

What works for me, may not work for you.  Typically, clients train 2-3x’s a week with a personal trainer. Is that enough? Well it depends on what your goals are. Lets say that you are in pretty good shape and you want to maintain what you have…then 2-3xs a week may be what you (or your trainer) think you need. The American College of Sports Medicine says we need exercise on all or most days of the week. I’m going to let that one sink in for a minute……..Let’s face it people.  Results do not happen overnight.  It did not take you 2 nights to gain 30lbs.  You will not drop 15lbs in 2 days.  Slow and steady wins the race, or should we say: consistent and discipline wins the race.  Exercise every day includes cardio and strength training.  Keeping your body guessing at what is next will give you results.  Having one day be a high intensity interval training on the treadmill and another day walking at a lower speed for a longer period of time…those are changes your body thrives for.  Body weight, plyometric training to machines and dumbbells.

Drastic changes and health improvements are not only made in the gym though.  80% is created in the kitchen!  It does not matter what your goals are when we are talking about nutrition.  If you are NOT eating primarily green leafy vegetables, lean proteins, complex carbs  and drinking more water than any other drink choice you are probably lacking many important nutrients.  By elminating processed foods, eating out, pre-packaged fruit cups, sugary drinks that just add extra calories of sugar–even though there is “no calories” your body will reap the benefit of vitamins and minerals so many of us lacking.  As an added bonus, you will shed a few of those unwanted pounds we are trying so desperatley to lose.

Bottom line is this: if you want to change your body, change your metabolism, change your physique, change how your body process proper nutrition and functions at the level of ability it always has been able to just not taught how to yet.  It takes dedication.  It takes discipline.  It takes changing your LIFESTYLE.  It takes sweat and determination.  It takes motivation, from within….the desire to be healthy.   It takes education.  It takes experimentaion…because chances are the first time will not be the right time.   It takes effort.  But the result of this effort is a body of strength that will take you far.

You know, I love to compete.  I am one of the most competitive women you will meet.  I love changing my body.  I love putting in work and getting results.  I love seeing the change and the feeling of accomplishment when I do it.   I guess that if I could have one wish granted is that more people (especially clients) took that risk.  You can do anything you put your mind to doing.  I believe in that, I live by that, and I am proof of that.

Think about the results you want and what it is going to take for you to reach them.  Good luck!  -Michele

ps-we may have to con’t this topic…

Challenge yourself

Hello Everyone!

This is our very first entry on the blog. We are not really sure what our outline of writing is going to be about, but you will defintely find it informative and personal, as we both will be making blog entries. We do want to write about things you can relate to. How about if we start today? Take out a piece of paper and write down 3 goals you would like to achieve in the next 90 days. Take the challenge with me. What is my goal? I would like to lose 13 more pounds, maintain my diet, weights 3x’s working up to 5x’s a week, cardio 6x’s a week and keeping processed foods and eating out limited to the whole family. Roderick will have to share his goals on his blog entry. So far, I am on day 7 and have lost 4.8lbs and feel great! I can actually feel the difference. It’s amazing to me though….how I can not run once for a whole month and get on the treadmill and feel like I’ve never missed a workout! (My challenge is to also keep this intensity up!!) I GET TIRED ;) So, think about something simple to change and work on it daily. Hold yourself accountable by sharing your goals with others, even posting it on the comment section. Of course I will be sharing my daily struggles and excitements with you and am looking forward to this challenge and transformation!

Have a healthy Monday,
Michele
